Meet Janelle
I've been playing piano for more than 40 years and have over 15 years of teaching experience. I have a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from BYU. I love teaching the classics, the hymns of faith, and everything in between. I've performed as a piano soloist with multiple orchestras, including the Utah Symphony.
I began teaching piano when I was 12 years old and earned prizes in local and international piano competitions. The knowledge and skills I gained as I studied piano with my university teachers have helped me know how to nurture each student’s piano playing abilities and how to encourage a lifelong love of music.
I've always felt strongly that piano students need a solid understanding of music fundamentals in order to become confident pianists. While living in Tooele, Utah, I worked with other local piano teachers to establish the Tooele chapter of the Utah Music Teachers Association (UMTA). I had the pleasure serving as president of that chapter, and I encouraged piano students to participate in the Achievement in Music program (AIM) which gave students opportunities to strengthen their musical skills and grow as musicians. The Tooele UMTA chapter continues to this day to be a strong resource for music teachers.
I now live and teach in Orem, Utah, where I welcome new students of all ages and ability levels. My teaching approach focuses on building confidence, developing strong technique, and fostering a deep appreciation for music.
